Fruits and vegetables
Raw fruits and vegetables should be eaten at every meal. These foods are rich in enzymes, vitamins and antioxidants. Apples, kiwis, pears and grapes are great sources of antioxidants for breakfast and snacks. Green leafy vegetables such as broccoli, leeks, cabbage, cauliflower and spinach are recommended for lunch and dinner. Many of these vegetables are rich in vitamin K, a nutrient beneficial to liver function.
Healthy Proteins, fats and oils
Chicken and fish are good sources of protein which will not pollute your liver of excess impurities. Eggs are also a source of protein and natural sulfur compounds which are necessary for liver function. Healthy Fats and oils are important also because they contain essential fatty acids, selenium and Methionine. Eat sardines, salmon, tuna and cod. Avocado, peas and lentils are also good sources of fatty acids and arginine, an essential nutrient for the detoxification of the liver.
Certain foods can further damage your liver. Avoid alcohol if possible, and never drink too much. Cut red meat out of your diet. Artificial chemicals can also damage the liver with toxins. Get fresh and organic produce and watch out for pesticides and insecticides. Artificial sweeteners and dyes aspartame is particularly harmful to the liver as well. Finally, try not to eat food with artificial flavors and preservatives. A natural diet that excludes these food groups will go a long recovery liver. Be sure to drink plenty of water at all times to facilitate the detoxification process.
