It happens to all of us, we fall short of our best intentions to eat well when a growling stomach sabotage our healthy diet. Learn how to tame hunger and take control of your appetite by making food choices that will keep you feeling full and satisfied
Keep portion sizes small but not too small. Instead of dramatically reducing the amount of food you put on your plate, hoping to drop some pounds, work toward eating less, a little at a time. For example, if you are used to eating a whole bagel slathered in cream cheese for breakfast every morning, try to eat a few slices of whole-wheat toast with jam spread.
Fill up water and fiber, not calories. Choose foods like fruits, vegetables and beans, which are naturally low in fat and calories, but is known to keep you feeling full. Reduce the amount of meat you eat, but adds bulk to dishes with whole grain rice, fruit and vegetables. Although protein in meat will satisfy your hunger, and is better for you than something sweet, meat that is high in fat and calories is not a healthy choice, either.
Eat whole foods instead of pre-packaged or processed meals. A body is able to better digest food and control your appetite when it has access to the nutrients to keep it healthy. Be sure to limit the amount of sugar you eat, and stay away from artificial sweeteners, which trick the body into thinking it is sugar, thus exacerbating the feeling of hunger.
Load up on soups packed with vegetables and beans. The body takes longer to digest fiber-rich foods and fluids, then you will of course keep hunger at bay.
