Although the best-known source of protein is meat, it is found in a variety of foods. Eggs, cheese, milk, peanut butter, beans and soy all contain protein.

Since vegetarians do not eat meat, getting enough protein is a concern. Vegetarians should concentrate on a well balanced diet that includes plenty of beans, nuts and whole grains. According to Harvard University School of Public Health, the vegetable protein easily substitute for animal protein. Soy and tofu are good sources of protein for vegetarians.
