There are 22 different amino acids, all of which are required by the body for various functions. Eight of these amino acids can not be manufactured by the body, they must come from the diet. Proteins are made of amino acids. Different proteins contain different amino acids, structured together in chains. Specific proteins have specific amino acids in a specific order. Not all proteins are the same. Some proteins, such as those from animal sources (meat, fish, dairy products) contains all eight essential amino acids. Other proteins, such as those from corn, legumes, nuts and seeds, contains not all eight amino acids, but can be eaten in combination to provide all of them.
Builds and repairs Your Body
Muscles, organs, tissues, hair, skin, nails are (and toenails, too!) All made of amino acids. As a child, your body is building itself from the food you eat. As an adult, your body repair damage and create new cells from the food you eat. If you do not eat enough protein, it will be enough amino acids to repair and rebuild the body, which can result in muscle and tissue damage.
Produces enzymes, antibodies, and hormones
Amino acids are also the building blocks of other essential parts of the body, such as enzymes, antibodies, and hormones. These drugs are used regularly, so the body has to produce more. Enzymes, which are essentially active proteins, making efforts to break down food into absorbable nutrients. Without enzymes, you can eat food and still die of hunger. Antibodies help the body fight infections and viruses. Hormones regulate many complex processes, such as growth and fertility, the effect on your metabolism and your behavior.
Without adequate protein, the body can not produce enough enzymes, antibodies, and hormones.
