<p>So this past week I tried something new. I gathered 7 of my friends and we took a trial class at <a href="http://www.ringboxingclub.com/" target="_blank">THE RING BOXING CLUB</a>. It was a quick 45 min class where they showed you the 5 punches, ran through quick training with exercises and then some time practicing those punches on a punching bag.</p>
<p>1st of all WOW. Now I know why boxers are in such good shape. Boxing takes concentration, stamina and discipline. Just trying to remember to bring &amp;  keep my hands near my face was enough to piss me off half the time.  It was fun though and after 20 mins of punching bags my shoulders and arms were screaming. Who knew? Certainly not I.</p>
<p>After the class they gave a quick spiel and invited us for a week trial where we could take any of their classes. During our trial class on the other side of the gym they were conducting their 12 rounds class. Its described as such</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em>&#8220;Here is your chance to haul off and hit something. We have combined the components of a professional boxer’s workout with extreme fitness drills. You will burn more calories – up to 1,000 per hour – and build more muscle definition than any other workout in the shortest amount of time. Kiss your boring weights and cardio machines good-bye.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>It looked intense and of course as soon as they handed me my trial paper I immediately looked up when I could take it.  I am going back tomorrow and Thursday to partake in some serious hardcore exercising. It&#8217;s exciting and scary at the same time. I wish I had the money to get a membership but sadly it was too rich for my blood.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve determined to make this year great and part of that is trying new exercises and switching it up so I don&#8217;t get stuck in a rut.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m waiting for the picture they took at the gym of me to get posted on their FB page. Once it&#8217;s up I&#8217;ll take it onto this post. But until then here is a pic that I took with all my friends after the trial class.</p>

<p>Also today quite sucks because my Pats lost! So I&#8217;m spending my days sulking&#8230;lol</p>

<p>So I have noticed something lately.</p>
<p>I work out harder when I am in a group of people or in a gym setting rather than by my lonesome. I know I&#8217;m not the only one. 60% of the time it&#8217;s because I&#8217;m not trying to look like the overweight fatty who is in horrible shape. I know I know that&#8217;s a whole issue in and of itself. The other 40% is because I am super competitive even when I&#8217;m not actually competing against someone. I recently saw this on Pinterest</p>

<p>When I saw that all I thought was YES! EXACTLY! I get my best workouts when I am in my head trying to beat someone or trying to disprove whatever judgy (is that a word?) thoughts may be in their heads. Quite back assward don&#8217;t you think.</p>
<p>While I can still get a good workout in at home alone or while running alone I need to work on being my own cheerleader. I&#8217;m have the tendency to give up (or not push as hard) more often when I&#8217;m alone. When surrounded by people or even one person the thought of giving up is appalling (can&#8217;t show weakness!) . I push myself but not nearly as hard as I could. I want to lose this weight. I know I can lose this weight! On top of that I want to build muscle and get stronger. That takes work, hard work am I willing to put in the same effort regardless if I think someone is looking or not? In my heart I am I just now need to get that in my head.</p>

<p>Last week was great. I don&#8217;t know if I mentioned before but I signed the family up the YMCA. They were having a special to pay no joiner fee so Tony and I decided to join. The boys love to swim and play basketball etc and they just re-did the fitness area. It was a win win. When you sign up they give a a free GET STARTED appointment along with 2 personal training sessions. My GET STARTED appt was for friday after work. It was great, I explained to the guy that I already know about nutrition and I just want to learn to add strength training into my routine. So we went through all the upper body machines and he showed me good form for each. He also talked to me about getting in other cardio because he felt like Zumba wasn&#8217;t &#8220;enough&#8221;. I had to explain to him that he&#8217;s never taken my Zumba classes. Both my teachers do their own choreography so it&#8217;s way more intense than other classes I have gone to. Either way he invited me to take his spin class. Which I may do. I took spin way back and I liked it.</p>
<p>I stayed under my calories everyday except Saturday. We went to one of our fav restaurants and yea ate without worry. We didn&#8217;t over-indulge it was just food we don&#8217;t eat on a daily basis. It was so good. I had no regrets. Xander was the LIFE of the party. All the waitresses came over to &#8220;talk&#8221; to him. The big boys watched the All Star Hockey game and played tic-tac-toe. It was a great night.</p>
<p><strong>A few non-scale victories:</strong></p>
<p>I ran for a mile (again) (getting back into running has been tough)</p>
<p>100 consecutive squats (on my way to 200! yippee)</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Hoping this week is as great as last week.<br />

It was a horrible eating weekend especially Sunday because the game was on. <p>Hmmmm what can I say. It was a horrible eating weekend especially Sunday because the game was on. Ended up eating nachos and chicken&#8230;yummy but so not good for the waist line.</p>
<p>I did get to exercise. Friday I did day 3 of the squat training program. I did 142 total (sets 1-4) and 80 consecutive squats. This time I didn&#8217;t have Xander for the extra resistance  (he was asleep). It was tough even without Xander but I am quite confident that by Friday I should be able to do 100 consecutive squats.</p>
<p>Sunday I went to the YMCA (more on this later) and while the boys went to the pool (it was xander&#8217;s first time) I went upstairs to the workout room and did some interval training on the treadmill for 30 mins and then switched to the cross trainer for 20 mins. It was a good burn. I also got a good look at the circuit machines since I want to try and incorporate that into my routine.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m not dwelling on the gain. I&#8217;m moving past it! I&#8217;m strong and this week will be better than the last!</p>

<p>So yesterday was week 1, day 2 of the 200 squat 6 week training program. Such a killer. I did  55 consecutive squats and 110 squats total while using Xander as extra resistance (he&#8217;s 17.5 lbs) He loved every minute of it while by the time I got to the last 10 squats my legs were on fire! After I caught my breathe I went in and got some high-fives from the family because I did 25 squats over my initial test and 10 squats over my Monday max.</p>
<p>After I dressed made my way to my Zumba class. We had a black out in the neighborhood so class started late which allowed me to stretch a bit. Our instructor making up for lost time worked us hard. I was exhausted by the time I got home. I know it&#8217;s only the 2nd day but I&#8217;m happy at my progress. I go into the squats with a set range in my head that I want to achieve for my max. It&#8217;s usually about a 10 digit spread and I&#8217;m happy with completing any amount of squats that fall between said range. I could probably do more but the added weight of Xander (whom also gets lifted up over my head when I stand up..thus working my arms) makes it more difficult.</p>
<p>I had Tony take new before pictures but I can&#8217;t find camera so I&#8217;ll have to do a separate post sometime next week.<br />

<p>5 cups of lentils (soaked and drained if using dried like I did)</p>
<p>1 medium summer squash</p>
<p>2 celery stalks</p>
<p>1/2 yellow pepper</p>
<p>2 handfuls raw spinach</p>
<p>1/2 cube chicken boullion</p>
<p>2 cloves garlic</p>
<p>water</p>
<h4>Spices</h4>

<p>2 tsp allspice</p>
<p>1 dried hot pepper (optional)</p>

<p>Fill pot with water enough to almost cover items in pot.</p>
<p>Stir</p>
<p>Place on fire and bring to a boil.</p>
<p>Lower fire and simmer for 20 mins or until skin of lentils becomes broken.</p>
<p>Eat (YUMMY!).</p>

<p>This is a great filling soup by itself. Or it can be spooned over a 1/2 cup of brown rice. and because I like it spice I always top off with more sriracha.</p>

<p>First of today is  a great day. 1st reason my baby Xander is 4 months today (times flies please cherish it). 2nd reason is because we are celebrating a great man Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.</p>
<p>Now let&#8217;s get into it.</p>

<p><span style="color: #000000;">So this is pretty much what I expected. Friday I was home with my 1st son because in the middle of the night he puked all over everything and then didn&#8217;t stop puking until the next day. Then my step-father after months of me asking finally sent over my sweet potato pie. Then we had pizza for dinner. That was just the beginning of my horrible weekend eating. I did tons of housework but no real exercise so that attributed to the low number also.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">I&#8217;m partially fine with it.  I mean I can&#8217;t do anything about it now. Just have to realize what went wrong and remedy it prior to attacking this weekend. I wish it were easier to get out on the weekend but it&#8217;s officially FRIGID in Boston now so baby and I going out will not happen. I mean this morning it was 6 degrees! That type of cold makes you avoid going outside unless absolutely necessary.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">This week I start the <a href="http://www.twohundredsquats.com/">200 squats training program </a>You can go check out the website but basically it&#8217;s a training program that will hopefully at the end of 6 weeks have you being able to do 200 consecutive squats. 3 days a week (Mon, Wed, Fri) you do 5 sets of varying amounts of squats. The fifth set is actually somewhat of a test to see how many squats you can max out on. So each day I do the program I will post my max squats done just to track my progress.  I did the initial test Thursday and I was about to do 32 squats consecutively. Tonight I do day 1 week 1.</span></p>
